When it comes to this summer’s craziest-looking movie, there’s no contest: Mad Max: Fury Road (in theaters May 15) has it on lock. The new trailer for the Mad Max reboot, directed by franchise creator George Miller, brings us even more eye-popping visuals from the post-apocalyptic world.
Tom
Hardy stars as Max, a lone warrior who becomes part of a larger fight
when he meets the tough commander Furiosa (Charlize Theron) in the
desert wasteland. The movie’s story hasn’t fully been revealed;
mentioned wars over oil and water, while this one makes it clear that
human trafficking also plays a part. But enough about the plot. Let’s
talk about the gonzo steampunk nightmare that Miller has conjured
onscreen, in which cars are outfitted with a porcupine’s worth of metal
spikes, bad guys congregate under skull-shaped waterfalls, and
explosions turn the desert into a sea of red dust. Here are five of the
most memorable visuals from the latest Fury Road trailer.
1. Hot licks from a flame-throwing guitar

This
mystery musician, who rolls in on a truck loaded with speakers and
old-fashioned Gramophone horns, gives new meaning to the phrase “power
chord.”
2. Mad Max, human hood ornament

Not sure what kind of vehicle Tom Hardy is strapped onto, but he’s not messing around. There are shades of Hardy’s Dark Knight villain Bane in that mask, albeit a more punk-rock Bane who welds his own accessories.
3. A chastity belt with teeth

Sealed
with industrial padlocks and equipped with metal fangs, this kinky
piece of equipment is more hardcore than anything in Christian Grey’s
Red Room.
4. Cirque de So Lethal

Remember: an armored semi is no match for pole-vaulting acrobats in classic cars.
5. Ride the lightning
